What is Resource Therapy?
Resource Therapy is based on the theory that our personality is composed of parts. These parts are called "resources".
We each have many different resources and most of the time these resources are very useful.
We have assertive resources that can help us with difficult situations, intellectual resources that can consider and process ideas and delicate, fragile resources that can appreciate the beauty in nature.
Throughout life, certain resource states can become "pathological". Prolonged periods of stress, trauma, grief or shock, along with many other life experiences, can cause our personality parts to feel or behave in undesirable ways.
For example a fragile part may become fearful, anxious or panicked. An assertive part may become overwhelmed and begin to develop a behaviour such as binge drinking or overeating in order to feel better.
The purpose of Resource Therapy is to move "pathological" resources to a normal condition.
