4 Simple Tips to Curb Evening Cravings

Night time hunger and cravings.

The number one issue that can undo a days worth of hard work and healthy eating.

This has to be one of the most common problems I hear about on a daily basis, so I have come up with a few helpful tips to put a stop to this troublesome issue.

Tip 1: Plan! At the beginning of each week decide what you are going to have for dinner each night and stick to it.

I hear too often people saying they didn’t know what to have for dinner so they just picked and snacked and had no idea how much they actually ate by the time they were full.

Devote an hour or 2 a week to ‘meal prep’ and stock your freezer full of healthy quick meals that are ready to go when things just don’t go to plan.

Tip 2: Eat Enough! Make time to fuel your body. Do not skip meals during the day and avoid under eating in order to lose weight. This slows your metabolism and is one of the major contributing factors to night time hunger.

Tip 3: Protein! Include a small amount of protein with every meal and snack. Make protein the star of your dinner time meal and serve it with a big bowl of greens and other vegetables that are high in fibre. This will help you stay fuller for longer.

Tip 4: It’s ok to snack! Providing it’s a controlled measured snack, snacking after dinner will not destroy your weight loss efforts.

A small handful of nuts, ¼ cup of fruit with natural yoghurt, a thumb sized piece of cheese or even a cup of herbal tea is sometimes all you need to see you through until bed time.

Another trap several dieters fall into every night is ‘rewarding’ themselves for being ‘good’ all day. This is a tricky mentality to break and also one that sabotages all your efforts.

Find another way to feel rewarded. Practice yoga, read a magazine, soak your feet in a warm lavender bath, do anything else but reward yourself with food.

Breaking a habit takes time but there is always a way!

These are just a few common tips that generally solve this problem, if your situation is particularly tricky we can come up with some ideas to suit you in your next consult.
