What to Expect
I've noticed there has been a lot of fear, hesitation and anxiety surrounding the ketogenic diet lately!
The online community seems to be spreading quite a lot of misinformation and many of my new clients have expressed their concern about starting a keto plan. Based on some of the "advice" I've seen online, I would be nervous too! So in this blog, I want to help to relieve some of the anxiety and hesitation by explain what you can expect when you decide to seek advice from me! As you're probably aware, I'm a big fan of low-carb and ketogenic eating. I have seen first-hand how wonderful it can be for weight loss and I've also felt the positivehealth benefits for myself. There are multiple benefits for you when you seek help from a highly trained practitioner who is also passionate about their work. Nothing beats personalised advice! To help you feel a little more at ease about starting your weight loss and/or keto journey, I want to give you a bit of an insight into what you can expect during our initial consultation. First of all, when I meet with you for the first time, I like to get a good understanding of your current diet and lifestyle. Not so I can critique you or tell you off but so that I can begin to develop some insight and understanding about your likes, dislikes, cravings and habits. Why? Because years of experience has taught me you can't just simply "put someone on a diet" without making sure it fits their lifestyle first! I want to make sure you leave with a good understanding on how you can easily integrate these changes into your life without causing any disruption. After we discuss your current way of living and eating, I will give you a list of foods to enjoy and I will explain how you can easily create meals that contain the appropriate amount of fat, protein and carbs. Without having to count macros. I will take the time to explain this part in as much detail as you need as I want you to leave our session feeling well informed and completely empowered. Once you have a sound understanding, I will help you to come up with some easy meal solutions that are as similar as possible to what you are currently eating. I can help you to create a meal plan for the week ahead and I can also teach you how to manage any potential tricky situations that may arise. My goal is to have you leaving the session feeling completely inspired and confident. Weight loss can be fun, easy and enjoyable! I want you to look forward to meal times and I want you to know you deserve feel nourished and satisfied. Not deprived and hungry! After we have discussed meal options, I will ask you if there is anything from your current diet that you would like to keep. For some people it might be a daily latte, for others a glass of wine, an apple or even a simple slice of toast with their eggs in the morning. Nothing is off limits, I am happy to modify the plan in any way you like as long as I can see some changes are being made and that you will still be able to achieve your result. This also means, that sometimes, someone comes in wanting to do the ketogenic diet, but they might leave with a plan that contains a few extra carbs and that’s OK! A super strict ketogenic diet is not for everyone, what's important is that you leave with an effective plan that you are going to enjoy. AND if I can help you to achieve your goals while still enjoying the things you love, it’s a double bonus! During our sessions I also like to spend some time removing the guilt around slip ups. In my world, there is no metaphorical weight loss wagon that you get on and then fall off of. When someone books a consultation with me it's because they have decided to start making some healthy changes for life. Being able to enjoy a wide variety of food (even the naughty stuff) is part of a balanced life. I want to show you how you can still enjoy these things without sabotaging your success. It is very rare for me to send you home with supplements after the first consultation, in fact it is very rare for me to prescribe them at all. I will use custom made herbal formulas if there are deeper issues like insulin resistance, PCOS, sluggish liver symptoms or persistent sugar cravings, but ultimately I like to use food as medicine. Towards to end of the session we will set some goals. I will ask you to share with me what you believe to be a healthy weight but I also like to make sure we set goals that are not weight related!
